about

Be OK is lyrically direct and tender, while its mood is soft and ephemeral.

The band, guided by Ross A.’s laid-back vocal, play with intuitive restraint. Nylon-string guitar, bass and drums create a relaxed backdrop which recalls alt-indie-folk minimalist leanings of artists like John Martyn, Wilco and Bill Callahan.

Michael Buckley’s floating, smoky saxophone interplays beautifully with hazy slide guitars and is reminiscent in sound of Pink Floyd’s 'Us and Them' and Air’s 'Playground Love'.

In essence, what is being communicated in this song is based on the principle of “what is most personal is most universal”, a quote from psychologist Carl Rogers.

lyrics

When night draws long and no birds sing
I can’t be there or do anything
I just want / I just want

Your sleep is fractured and restless now
Something in me needs to show you how
I just want
I just want you to be o.k.

When nothing’s light, time barely moves
And no-one you know can lift the blues
I just want / I just want

When you have to break before you mend
Hide for a while, be your own best friend
I just want
I just want you to be o.k.

When it’s hard to hear music play
Or the hopeful things people try to say
I just want / I just want

You won’t be reborn but made anew
And I don’t have much to give you
I just want
I just want you to be o.k.
I just want you to be o.k.

about

Ross A. (formerly Ross Breen) Ireland

"Ross A. is an evolutionary jump from his acoustic led singer songwriter days into an artist that lists Beck, Bowie, the Flaming Lips and Villagers as inspirations. The evidence is as clear as day on his class singles ‘Some Other Time, Maybe’ and ‘Flowing To You, Flowing Through’... it’s a brilliant return."
